Reactions to Skopje Airport Radar Issue Continue

Authorities expect the radar issue at the Skopje airport to be quickly resolved, that is, for the device to be quickly fixed. In addition, M-NAV has a new radar that’s been unpacked for several months, since it was procured from Italy.

Managing Board President Vladimir Risteski told Telma on Monday that activities were underway to install it, explaining it had been purchased in the frames of a navigation project for the country, with EBRD financial assistance. The plan is for its use to start in February 2026.

Commenting on the current radar issue, however, SDSM said at a press-conference that it had shown how VMRO-DPMNE’s incompetence and partisanship directly put citizens in danger.

“This is not just a technical defect. This is the consequence of the forcible housing of party staff at one of the most important institutions for the safety of all of us”, it noted, asking who would be held to account.

Nonetheless, VMRO-DPMNE said SDSM was intentionally creating fake panic, asking how there could be a link between parties and a broken radar, the latter which could happen at any airport around the world.

“Not only is the broken radar not endangering passenger safety, but operations of the airport are continuing unimpededly, in accordance with determined protocols”, it stated, adding that no renowned airline had filed a complaint or cancelled flights.
