Report on North Macedonia to be Presented at EP on Tuesday

The European Parliament is expected to vote about the Report on the Progress of North Macedonia in its EU-integration process, prepared by MEP and Rapporteur for North Macedonia Thomas Waitz.

The voting was previously scheduled for 4 June, but MEP Waitz requested a delay due to pressures from Bulgarian MEPs who disputed the references to the Macedonian identity and language in the report.

PM Hristijan Mickoski said couple of days ago that he expects for the European Parliament to adopt Waitz’s report, which according to him would be a strong signal for recognition of the independence and uniqueness of the Macedonian language and identity.

On Monday, Bulgarian FM Georg Georgiev said that the report of the European Parliament for North Macedonia is not of internationally legally binding nature, adding that Bulgaria supports the processes for enlargement of the EU based on merit.
