Research: Around 50% of Youth Sceptical over EU Integration

Research conducted by the Institute for Good Governance and Euro-Atlantic Perspectives shows youth are skeptical that North Macedonia will join the EU. Around 50% are skeptical that there will be integration, whereas 35% consider that EU membership will become a reality. 84.6% of young people consider that corruption is the main problem on the road to EU membership.

The second and third biggest problem, according to the research, are bilateral disputes and low confidence in institutions, respectively. When someone mentions the EU, life and job opportunities are the first topics in which youth are most interested.

Programs for education and youth, such as Erasmus+, and topics related to human rights protection are third and fourth, respectively.

8% of youth, it is added in the research, consider that North Macedonia will become an EU member in the next five years. Most believe that Albania, Montenegro, and Serbia are the first three countries from the Western Balkans that will be integrated.
