Ristoska Continues Criticism of Government’s Decision in Race for ECHR Judge

Prosecutor Lence Ristoska, in an interview with BIRN, says that the international reputation of North Macedonia is a victim of events related to the abolished selection of a judge at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

In her view, the Government’s decision not to respect the expert commission’s recommendation and stop the procedure without an explanation has directly undermined the reputation.

Ristoska notes that the decision is in violation of a series of Council of Europe (CoE) recommendations for a stable and transparent procedure founded on clear criteria.

“Such an ignoring of the expert assessment sends a signal that procedures don’t apply and compromises the whole selection process”, the Prosecutor stresses.

Ristoska is contemplating not applying in the frames of the new ad because that, in her view, would legitimise a contested process and delegitimise the previous one.
