The Parliament adopted Friday the Changes to the Law on Misdemeanors with 81 votes in favor and 19 against, without abstentions, in a shortened procedure. This paves the way for the launch of the “Safe City” system for automatic recording and sanctioning of traffic violations starting February 1.
At the request of European Front coordinator Rina Ajdari, voting was conducted individually. DUI initially stated that they would not support the law-changes, but two MPs which are part of their MP group voted in favor, thus providing the two-third majority required for adoption.
The law aims to strengthen traffic safety by introducing a special procedure for violations detected through technical devices and recording equipment.
From SDSM, whose MP group did not support the changes, they react over the lack of controlling mechanism over the Safe City system, claiming that this opens room for abuse of the personal data of the citizens.
