SDSM Leader Filipce Comments on Bulgaria and Constitutional Changes Issue

According to SDSM leader Venko Filipce, though the problem with Bulgaria will be solved neither quickly nor easily, the question is about whether the country will stagnate during the solving process.

“The question is whether, in that period, we will not have reforms, not make the constitutional changes regarding which all of us, including VMRO-DPMNE, say there is no problem with including Bulgarians in the Constitution”, he said in an interview with Kanal 5 on Tuesday.

Sometimes, the EU path, he stressed, requires firm and brave decisions at the expense of political ratings. Filipce’s impression is that the government is only seeking a reason not to move forward on the EU path, while it doesn’t have a desire to make judicial reforms either.

“We have a concrete proposal on the table, the French one. It’s been on the table for three years”, he pointed out, asking when the wait would end.

Filipce also said he had a proposal for a referendum where citizens would decide whether the country was ready to proceed on the EU path.
