SDSM leader Venko Filipce attended on Sunday the protest of teachers, organised by SDSM, in front of the building of the Ministry of Education in Skopje.
“I am here today to voice support to the teachers and other education workers, who gathered here to voice their dissatisfaction with the decision of the government headed by VMRO-DPMNE to not increase their salaries.
With this gesture, PM Hristijan Mickoski shows that he is neglecting the education sector and does not care at all for those who educate our children. No one believes their lies that there are no funds in the state budget for increase of the salaries of teachers. We call upon the government to see reason and increase the salaries, especially now in conditions when prices of products are constantly on the rise too,” Filipce said.
Previously, Education Minister Vesna Janevska addressed criticism at SDSM over the protest.
“The protest is organised by the political party which till recently was in power and was able to significantly improve the conditions in the education sector, but never did that. Once the state budget is stabilised from the great damages caused by the previous government, there will be opportunities for increase of the salaries of teachers,” Janevska said.
From the Independent Trade Union for Education (SONK) they also distanced themselves from the protest.
