A 61-year-old passenger from Serbia was injured in an incident on a Ryanair aircraft, which made an emergency return to the Thessaloniki airport after an engine defect had been discovered while flying over North Macedonia. According to Greek media, he was saved by his seatbelt and by other passengers, who held and pulled him to prevent him from flying out of the plane through a shattered window.
During the descent, a piece of the damaged engine detached and struck a cabin window, causing a drop in cabin pressure. Protothema.gr has quoted passengers as saying a loud noise was heard on the plane and a window broke. They recount how passengers held onto the Serbian man who was sitting next to the shattered window after the air pressure pulled him outward.
The plane was flying from Thessaloniki to Memmingen, Germany.
“The aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal”, Ryanair said.
Initially, it was reported that North Macedonia would lead the investigation into the case. However, on Sunday, media reported that the U.S. would actually head the process as it was about a U.S. Boeing.
