Zekirja Shaini, the pulmonologist employed by the Pulmonology Clinic in Skopje and the carrier of DUI’s list of Council seat candidates in Lipkovo, who was shot on Tuesday in Kumanovo, has been discharged for in-home treatment. The Director of the Skopje-based Clinic of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Jasmina Gjorgievska Pavlovska, said on Wednesday the patient was feeling good.
“The patient’s general condition is good”, she said.
Telma reported that Shaini had been shot four times. Later on Wednesday, police said Shaini’s wife had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder attempt. Once the case is documented, she will be charged. Also, the Interior Ministry said the murder suspect, a 36-year-old Gostivar man, L.F., was still at large and would be charged.
According to police, six persons have been summoned to the Kumanovo Internal Affairs Sector for an official conversation of the case, while the home of 50-year-old B.S. was searched on the basis of a court order. Prior to police’s presentation of the information, DUI had continued to call on institutions to “urgently and transparently” solve the matter.
“Otherwise, every delay and tolerance of the violence will have serious consequences for public safety, the election process, and reputation of state institutions”, the party’s Vice-President, Arber Ademi, stressed.
According to DUI, it’s not about a common incident, but rather about a severe, deliberate, and morbid act aiming to create uncertainty, fear and tensions.
Regarding the CCTV footage, Ademi stated that the masked and armed person had a clear intention to endanger Shaini’s life, adding that that was why there were strong indications it’s about an assassination attempt that had to be treated as such.
DUI said it had three demands for relevant institutions: taking urgent action, without delays and without political calculations; identifying and arresting the perpetrator and everyone involved in the organisation of the attack; and timely and transparently informing the public “because citizen safety is a state, not partisan, matter”.
