Sixth Death of West Nile Fever Confirmed

The Infectious Diseases Clinic has recorded a sixth death among patients infected with West Nile fever.

Clinic director Fadil Cana said the latest patient, a 72-year-old man, had been hospitalized for 15 days in critical condition with a severe clinical presentation. He died despite intensive treatment, Cana said. 57 patients have so far been hospitalized or are currently receiving treatment at the clinic.

In the meantime, the Agency for Food and Veterinary (AFV) reported that a sample taken from a dead raven found in Resen turned positive for West Nile Fever, prompting healthcare authorities and units of local self-government in that area to engage into activities to prevent the further spreading of the virus.
