Sulejmani Resigns from both All Posts at Alliance for Albanians Wing and as MP

Salim Sulejmani has said that he’s resigning from all positions held by him at the Alliance for Albanians’ wing headed by Arben Taravari, as well as from the post of MP. As he pointed out, his political engagement resulted from a sense of responsibility and desire for genuine changes, not due to a personal ambition.

“The participation in the VLEN coalition was motivated by the need to face the failures of DUI and its abuse of power. DUI, a party that was part of the cabinet for two decades, instead of being a worthy representative of Albanians, turned into a structure linked with personal and clan interests. I saw the VLEN coalition as that corrupt matrix’s antipode”, Suljemani stated.

However, as he underlined, lately, there’s been a serious deviation from the initial principles, especially after the wing got closer to DUI on the eve of the local elections.

“This political alliance constitutes a violation of our promises and unworthy representation of Albanians”, he noted, adding that he couldn’t be part of an alliance that made compromises with people blacklisted over serious affairs.

Sulejmani stated that he would continue his engagement through other forms in order to serve citizens more efficiently.

“I believe you will very soon feel the results and see the traces of my engagement in the future. I am only asking for patience and understanding, until the truth fully surfaces”, he noted.

According to VLEN’s list for the 2024 parliamentary elections, in Electoral District 5, Sulejmani was followed by Valbona Adili Emini, a paediatrician who’s part of BESA, that is, VLEN.

If she officially succeeds Sulejmani, VLEN will have 10 MPs in the new parliamentary majority, after Taravari’s leaving. At the same time, that would prevent MPs from Taravari’s wing from forming a parliamentary group because that requires five parliamentarians, a number the wing no longer has.
