Supreme Court Overturns Verdicts in Tetovo Modular Hospital Fire

The verdicts in the trial over the 2021 Tetovo modular hospital fire, which claimed 14 lives, have been overturned. The Supreme Court annulled both the first-instance and appellate verdicts and remanded the case for a retrial.

According to the Supreme Court’s rationale, the lower courts failed to sufficiently explain the causal link between the defendants’ actions and the tragedy. Former hospital directors Florin Besimi and Artan Etemi had been sentenced to three-year prison terms.
