The repeat trial over the Thaler 2 case started at the Criminal Court on Tuesday. In the legal process, ex-PM and former VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski is charged in relation to unlawful construction of the party’s seat in the centre of Skopje.
The Prosecutor’s Office’s request that he be tried in absentia due to a danger of the statute of limitations expiring was accepted. Previously, the Court had frozen a major part of the party’s assets, that is, the seat and another 30 HQs.
According to a decision made at Tuesday’s hearing, the party will be able to rent them out but will have to transfer the money to a separate account, where it will remain frozen until an effective verdict is reached.
