Transporters Start Blockades over EES

Transporters have started the blockades of 10 border crossings over the EES, i.e. the 90/180 rule, which will enter into force in April.

Hundreds of transporters started the blockade for freight traffic at the Bogorodica-Evzoni crossing at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. They said there would be a seven-day protest, during which a solution to the problem was expected.

They pointed out that the new conditions would end their livelihood. Also on Monday, Spokesperson Markus Lammert said the EC was aware of the concerns raised by transport operators in the Western Balkans.

“We are following the situation closely and we are in contact with our partners in the region”, he added.

As the Spokesperson stressed, however, the EES does not introduce any new requirements relating to the length of stay under the Schengen area.
