US State Department Condemns China’s Pressure over IPAC Summit

The US State Department told RFE Macedonian on Friday that it condemned Cinna’s pressure on MPs not to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) Summit in Taiwan in its attempts, as it stated, to isolate the self-governing island.

“We are concerned by reports that MPs were pressed by the People’s Republic of China not to attend the conference,” it pointed out, adding that China often used pressure tactics, targeting individuals and organisations engaging in communication with Taiwan.

Several days prior, North Macedonia MPs Antonio Milososki and Fatmir Bytyqi had confirmed that they had faced pressure from China not to attend the event.
