Von der Leyen and Mickoski Discuss Unblocking Integration Process

The EU is making a renewed effort to unblock North Macedonia’s European integration. The path forward runs through Sofia and will begin as early as next week, which was agreed upon by EC President von der Leyen and PM Mickoski during the former’s visit to Skopje on Friday. Von der Leyen stated that only afterward would North Macedonia be eligible to receive a roadmap.

“I can confirm what the Prime Minister just said that we agreed to have a first new step next week, to try to unblock the process and to bring it into a process. That’s the most important part in it”, the EC President said.

“I received advice from the President that next week, our Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will already be in Sofia. The reason for this is Corridor 8 and the projects we are moving within the framework of Corridor 8, for us to request a bilateral meeting with the host. I immediately requested that the Minister send a diplomatic note and request a date and time for a meeting with his counterpart so that we can begin and move the process forward from somewhere”, Mickoski stated.
