Hahn describes Referendum as choice Between future Towards EU and Isolation

In an interview with MIA, the EU’s Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, says he regrets the lack of national unity regarding the name referendum. He urges citizens to exercise their right to vote in order to shape both their and the country’s future. In Hahn’s view, the referendum represents, among other things, a choice between a future turned towards the EU and isolation. “This is not imposed by the EU or by the international community,” he underlines. In that regard, the Commissioner adds that Euro-Atlantic integration had been set as a strategic goal a long time ago. “It’s up to citizens to decide whether this perspectives, with all its concrete benefits, will materialise or not,” he stresses.
