Zaev: Reforms and Name Issue Agreement Only Way towards EU Membership

Тhe implementation of required reforms, as well as the Name Issue Agreement with Greece, is the only way for Macedonia to become a full EU member, said PM of Macedonia Zoran Zaev during a conference in Skopje titled “Macedonian Perspective: How to reach EU”. “The reforms necessary in the fields of rule of law, state administration, struggle against corruption etc. are the only answer to the question “How to reach EU?”, and those claiming the opposite of this are lying to themselves and the others. EU decided to determine the start of membership negotiations with Macedonia in June 2019 thanks to many improvements made so far, including inter-ethnic relations within the country, as well as the country’s foreign policy, especially the agreements with Bulgaria and Greece. The entire democratic world welcomed and positively evaluated the Name Issue Agreement between Macedonia and Greece, which was crucial for the European Commission to decide to set the date for start of negotiation in June 2019,” Zaev pointed out. German Ambassador to Macedonia Thomas Gerberich said that the progress of Macedonia towards EU membership in the past few years is rather impressive and that Germany does all in its power to assist Macedonia in its EU integration process.
