Kovacevski Had Meeting with Ahmeti and Zaev in Skopje

PM Dimitar Kovacevski stated for TV21 that he had a meeting with DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and former SDSM leader Zoran Zaev in Skopje on Thursday.

Kovacevski did not reveal where and when exactly the meeting took place, and only briefly stated that he, Ahmeti and Zaev discussed the European perspectives of North Macedonia. On the other hand, MIA reported, citing own sources, that Kovacevski, Ahmeti and Zaev allegedly held talks to define a strategy for the upcoming parliamentary election and all the options for the so-called European front.

In meantime, Sloboden Pecat reported, citing sources from within SDSM, that SDSM has, apart from the concept for a broad pro-European front, another approach towards the parliamentary elections, which focuses on an alliance between them and all Albanian political parties in the country, in order to eventually outnumber the opposition in the parliament and to secure a strong majority with at least 72 MPs, or even up to 79 MPs in the best-case scenario.

The source connects these ideas to the recent meeting of between representatives of SDSM and of Kosovo PM Albin Kurti’s party, and that the goal of this approach is for none of the Albanian parties to be willing to form an alliance with VMRO- DPMNE even if they win the election.
