On Monday, President Stevo Pendarovski signed the decree promulgating the Law on Use of the Macedonian Language, adopted on Friday by Parliament.
“I expect the implementation of the Law will contribute to overcoming of the alarming situation regarding the incorrect use of Macedonian and its Cyrillic script, as well as to increased, organised, and systemic care by the state about it being used correctly,” he said.
As his Cabinet added, the Law will contribute to a higher language culture, fostering and protection of the language and its script, affirmation of the need for increased societal and individual care about correct use of Macedonian in public and official communication, and respecting and advancement of the language standard.
