In a telephone conversation with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev expressed gratitude for the increased engagement of the German Presidency with the EU, for the personal involvement of Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, EU Minister Michael Roth, as well as Chancellor Merkel’s personal commitment. During the conversation, Prime Minister Zaev stressed that Germany has done a lot for the European future of the Western Balkans, including through the Berlin Process, which this year is co-chaired by Bulgaria and Macedonia. In a telephone conversation between Chancellor Merkel and Prime Minister Zaev, they shared the common interest and the same goal of the two countries during the German EU presidency, to hold the first intergovernmental conference in December and the start of Macedonia’s EU membership talks.
