Macedonian-Bulgarian Commission Holds New Meeting

The Macedonian-Bulgarian Commission on Historic Affairs held a new session on Friday via online link, but unfortunately did not make any progress concerning the issues discussed. The Foreign Affairs Ministry reported via a press release that the Commission members were discussing possible changes to the history school books currently in use in Macedonia in order to overcome issues coming from the different interpretations of the historical role of Macedonian revolutionist Goce Delcev. “Despite the constructive debate and a meeting that went in a very good atmosphere, the Commission members did not manage to reach consensus over the issue at hand, hence the major differences in interpretations of history concerning Goce Delcev remain,” writes the release of the Foreign Ministry, adding that the next meeting of this Commission is to occur on 22 and 23 April 2021. Foreign Affairs Minister Bujar Osmani voiced general satisfaction with the meeting, even though no progress was realised.
