FM Osmani Meets Gabriel Escobar in Dubrovnik

In Dubrovnik, Croatia, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani met with US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans and Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Gabriel Escobar. The meeting focused on the current state of affairs in the Western Balkans. In that regard, Osmani briefed Escobar on the 9-point Plan initiated by him in the capacity of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, for de-escalation of the Serbia- Kosovo tensions. There was also a discussion on speeding up the EU integration processes of North Macedonia and the region as a shared strategic goal. As Osmani said, since EU enlargement is a security issue, speeding up those processes is key when it comes to preserving stability in the region, but also in Europe as a whole. “We highly appreciate the continued support from the US in that direction, which is a shared strategic interest, but also a guarantee for limiting the influences of third parties,” Osmani stated. The meeting saw a discussion also on the development of bilateral relations in the frames of the Strategic Dialogue, as well as on the overall support to enhance democratic institutions, progress with regards to the rule of law, and fight against corruption.
