PM Zoran Zaev reforms SPO with Ruskovska as Head

The PM Zoran Zaev revealed on Friday at a press conference in the government that the new Law on Public Prosecution will be delivered to the Parliament of Macedonia from Monday onwards. “The text of the new law will first be submitted to all political parties and the media. This new law predicts merging of the Special Public Prosecution (SPO) as a department of the Basic Public Prosecution (PPO), and it would be renamed into “Public Prosecution for Prosecuting Organised Crime and High Corruption”. As the new head of this reformed SPO we suggest the current Public Prosecutor for Organised Crime Vilma Ruskovska. All other prosecutors that are currently working at the SPO can apply to become part of the new department. This way, SPO’s structure and resources will be more secure and will not be dependent on the politicians and their decisions,” PM Zaev explained. From VMRO-DPMNE they said they will take a look at the new law, but do not support he idea of Ruskovska heading the new SPO. “VMRO-DPMNE finds it acceptable for SPO to become part of PPO. However, we think that Ruskovska is not the right person for that position, because we believe she stands in protection of the personal and business interests of Zoran Zaev and people close to him,” said VMRO-DPMNE spokesperson Dimce Arsovski. Ruskovska herself said that she would be honoured to head the new reformed SPO. “However, I think that at the moment it is too early of congratulations, because we need to wait for the outcome of the parliamentary procedure over the new law,” Ruskovska said.
