The Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) proposed a house arrest measure for businesspersons Orce Kamcev and Cvetan Pandeleski and their associates, who are in detention within the frameworks of the Empire case, but also for former Government Sec Gen Kiril Bozinovski and ex-Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski, who are defendants in the Titanic case. As the institution headed by Katica Janeva said on Thursday, it cannot reveal the decision to replace the detention measure with a house arrest one for those suspects and defendants because that won’t be in the interest of the investigation. The SPO is yet to send an opinion about former UBK head Saso Mijalkov, who is in detention within the frameworks of the Empire case as well and has offered guarantees in the form of 1-million-euro assets. The defence expects the institution to express a positive opinion about Mijalkov, too, by Friday at the latest. According to Mijalkov’s lawyer, Ljupco Svrgovski, the Criminal Court, that is, a judge in a previous procedure will decide on Mijalkov’s detention measure. The same day, the detention measure for Kamcev and Pandeleski was replaced with house arrest by the Court of Appeal. Also on Thursday, Mijalkov was taken to court from the investigative prison in Suto Orizari for the trial over the Torture case, which concerns the 2011 arrest of United for Macedonia leader Ljube Boskoski. Videos of speeches delivered by Boskoski during the 2011 election campaign were played in which he mentions Mijalkov, Kamcev and then-VMRO-DPMNE leader Nikola Gruevski.
