FM Dimitrov meets Greek PS Voutsis in Athens

On Friday, FM Nikola Dimitrov held a meeting in Athens with Greek PS Nikolaos Voutsis. They said they were satisfied because the internal procedures in the two countries regarding the ratification of the Prespa Agreement and it entering into force had ended. Dimitrov and Voutsis also expressed the two sides’ pledges to successfully implement the deal. “I think we’ve unlocked huge potential for the relations between the two countries and I will not stop until we convince the last citizen – in both Greece and North Macedonia – that this was the right move and that our two nations are natural allies,” Dimitrov said. According to the Greek PS, the name deal is opening a path for friendship and partnership between the two countries. As he added, Greece’s Parliament should form Greece-Macedonia friendship committees and Skopje’s European path should be supported in terms of a start of EU membership negotiations. During Dimitrov’s visit to the Greek Parliament, a small incident was caused by Golden Dawn spokesperson Ilias Kasidiaris. He was shouting “Macedonia is Greek” and told security, which stopped him from entering the place where the Dimitrov-Voutsis was taking place, that “the Skopjan, too”, should hear that Macedonia was Greek. The following day, Dimitrov participated in the International Academic Conference, held to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of International and European Studies at the University of Piraeus, and met his Greek counterpart George Katrougalos.
