Latest developments in Relation to initiative for Single electoral District

The 12 MPs that are part of the group for a single electoral district requested on Thursday a meeting with PS Talat Xhaferi, SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski and DUI leader Ali Ahmeti. SDSM finds the proposal for a single electoral district acceptable, but changes to the Electoral Code require consensus. VMRO-DPMNE didn’t voice a stand on the initiative. Ziadin Sela’s Alliance for Albanians considers that there should be as many as eight districts.  BESA said it supported the initiative, but not fully. According to MP Fadil Zendeli, the proportional electoral model shouldn’t be changed, but there should be three districts instead of six. “That reflects the reality in the country, which is that certain ethnic communities vote in certain regions,” the BESA MP said.
