Number of COVID-19 Cases in Macedonia reaches 555

A total number of 171 new cases of patients tested positive for COVID-19 were registered throughout the weekend, 46 on Friday, 53 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday, raising the number of COVID-19 cases in Macedonia to 555. As Health Minister Venko Filipce informed, in the past three days 8 patients passed away as a result of COVID-19 complications, while 6 patients were discharged from the Clinic for Infectious Diseases after their last two control tests for COVID-19 turned negative. Calculated by cities, Skopje has most COVID-19 positive cases – 235, followed by Kumanovo with 114, Debar with 49, Prilep with 33, Tetovo with 29, Struga with 24, Stip with 19, Kocani with 14, Veles with 10, Bitola with 6, Gostivar and Gevgelija with 4 each, Ohrid and Radovis with 3 each, and Strumica, Kriva Palanka and Krusevo with 2 each. According to the Health Ministry reports, till now 52 medical workers (doctors, nurses etc.) have been tested positive for COVID-19. At a press conference, Filipce explained that Macedonia is entering a new stage of the COVID-19 epidemic development, adding that the epidemic is expected to reach its peak in Macedonia in the following weeks. “We are at a critical point as we expect the number of COVID-19 cases to increase and since we are several weeks away from a peak, we are entering a new phase of managing the whole process. If the situation worsens, we will propose other measures that will increase the restriction,” Filipce said.
