Pendarovski Requests Parliament to Reconvene, Xhaferi Refuses

President Stevo Pendarovski will decide on continuation on the state of emergency for the next 30 days, based on the new proposal by the Government. As such, he will try to overcome the legal gap in the Constitution, which does not provide for the possibility of continuing the state of emergency in a situation when Parliament is dismissed. The President believes that the best course of action would be to reconvene Parliament, however PS Talat Xhaferi did not agree. Pendarovski encourages the government, after the holiday, to define new measures for the economy, for a phased, gradual return of economic activity to normal, because, he says, it is clear that the country will have to live with the virus. He called for the most drastic measures, such as the long curfew, to be applied within a reasonable time so that the opposite effect is not achieved. Contrary to the position of the Minister of Defense, who announced that the participation of the Army in all cities is intensifying, Pendarovski, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said that starting Friday, all banks and other businesses will be obliged to organize their own security service in order for the Army not to be used for such purposes. For Kumanovo, Pendarovski’s position is that the government should consider strengthening the measures that were applied in Debar and Centar Zupa, with the complete closure of the municipality. In anticipation of the upcoming Easter and Ramadan holidays, the President said that this year the church will have to comply with the rules that apply to everyone. He appealed to the faithful to adhere to the recommendations.
