SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE Remain Divided over Census Process

The developments related to the census of the population have continued to spark divisions. VMRO-DPMNE’s stand remains unchanged, that is, that the process should be delayed. “That’s been done by other countries in Europe as well,” the opposition party points out. SDSM disagrees with the view that the operation should include fingerprints. In order for the statistical process to be approved, both the Statistical Office Director and the Deputy, who’s from the ranks of DUI, need to sign off. The ruling party once again claims that the process will be held this year because it’s needed to make economic policies. It believes that consensus with the opposition will be found before the vote in Parliament. The next issue over which both sides are expected to clash is the one concerning the nominations for State Election Commission (SEC) members. VMRO-DPMNE has officially confirmed that Aleksandar Dastevski is its choice, whereas SDSM is still silent over its candidates.
