Government Responds to Proposal for Referendum over Bulgaria Issue

It’s Parliament that proposes, debates, and decides on initiative for the referendum, while the Government’s positions on the identity red lines are clear, the Government’s press-service says regarding NSDP President and ruling coalition partner Tito Petkovski’s proposal for a consultative referendum over the negotiations with Bulgaria. VMRO-DPMNE is aware of Petkovski’s proposal. However, so far, the party hasn’t built a stand on it. That is also the case with the other parties. The idea was presented by Tito Petkovski in an interview with the Samo Vistina (Truth Only) TV show on Kanal 5 TV. In his view, the question should be in direction of “Should Macedonia continue negotiations with Bulgaria in the way the latter demands it or not?”. However, Petkovski said the question should be determined by the parties through consensus.
