Gov’t, Opposition with Different Views on Recommendations of Historical Figures

SDSM welcomed the recommendations of the Macedonian-Bulgarian Commission on Historical Affairs for mutual observation of historical figures and changes to history books in primary schools. “We all saw today that the recommendations do not affect the national identity or the language, and that there is no redefinition of the history of our country as Bulgarian, like VMRO-DPMNE and their leader Hristijan Mickoski used to claim,” SDSM MP Darko Kaevski said. From VMRO-DPMNE on the other hand, they reacted that with the recommendations the government betrays the significance of historical figures for the Macedonian people. “The government of Dimitar Kovacevski is giving up on our history. Today, they literally gave away to Bulgaria King Samuel, and agreed to share with them the Saints Cyril and Methodius, Clement and Naum of Ohrid. By accepting changes to historical books, Kovacevski and SDSM have given up on the Macedonian history, and continue their mass operation for treachery against their country and their people,” they react from VMRO-DPMNE.
