Two Candidates for Constitutional Judges, Joveski’s Election Blocked

Two of candidates for constitutional judges are in front of MPs at a plenary session. For the government, this is an attempt to overcome a constitutional crisis, and for the opposition, this is a precedent. The election of Ljubomir Joveski as a constitutional judge remains blocked by VMRO-DPMNE, the government in an attempt to elect at least two constitutional judges instead of three in order to prevent a constitutional crisis. The candidates Fatmir Skender and Tatjana Vasic-Bozadzieva, proposed by the ruling majority, who received the green light from the parent commission for elections and appointments. The position of the government is that with this move a constitutional crisis should be avoided, that soon the constitutional court could be left without the minimum majority for decision-making. According to the opposition, the election of two constitutional judges at a plenary session is illegal. VMRO-DPMNE demand that this item be withdrawn due to, as they say, the unfinished discussion in the Elections and Appointments Commission. They announced non-confidence motion and criminal responsibility for Xhaferi and the president of the commission, Georgievska. Unlike Bozadzieva and Skender, who easily passed the commission filter, the election of Joveski is prevented by VMRO-DPMNE with many hours of speeches and procedural remarks to be determined as the third proposal for a constitutional judge.
