Pendarovski: EU Accession Process Shouldn’t Be Burdened by Historical Affairs

President Stevo Pendarovski addressed on Monday the Brdo-Brijuni Summit that took place in Kranj, Slovenia. In his address, Pendarovski referred the ongoing processes for integration of Macedonia in the EU and the challenges the country faces along that way. “All Western Balkan countries were severely affected by the COVID-19 crisis, and it will take all of us at least two-three years to bring back the countries and the economies to normal. This is why it is important for North Macedonia and Albania to start the EU accession negotiations without any further delays. Now is not the time for this process to be obstructed with historical affairs, which in fact have nothing to do with the process itself. It is important for all of us to work on maintenance of the European values in our region, because if that does not happen, other forms of rule and other organisations not from the European continent may become more attractive. EU should demonstrate more courage when it comes to the European integration of our region,” Pendarovski said.
