Spasovski-Deskoska Press-Conference on State of Emergency Measure

State of emergency does not automatically mean limiting human rights and freedoms, urge Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski and Justice Minister Renata Deskoska. Both emphasize that if citizens do not comply with recommended protection measures, it will be necessary to introduce more rigorous measures in order to protect the health of the population. Both point out that the state of emergency was primarily a decision needed to enable the government to respond more quickly in case the need arises for measures that would require much longer procedures in regular procedure. PM Spasovski urged all citizens and the elderly population not to leave their homes and, if necessary, take advantage of the opportunities provided by the municipalities and the Red Cross to assist those in need. Deskoska stated that voting “for” the state of emergency was one of the most difficult decisions ever, but it was the right one. She announced that several legal decrees are already being prepared to reduce the consequences of the epidemic, as well as to prevent possible abuses. At this point, Spasovski says, no change in government composition is contemplated and the technical government remains in place.
