Criminal Accountability Regarding Escape of Mijalkov not Determined

Former Security and Counter-Intelligence Administration Director Saso Mijalkov will not be criminally prosecuted due to his unavailability, that is, escape. A public prosecutor has found there is no basis for a public prosecutor’s decision because the existence of a crime that is prosecuted ex officio hasn’t been determined. As it was explained in Saturday’s press-release, videos and phone conversations from 54 numbers were secured. There was hearing of 37 persons, including the Justice and Interior Ministers, the Public Security Bureau Director, PM Zoran Zaev, and Criminal Court President Ivan Dzolev, while police conversations were held with another 20 people. The case concerns the attempt in February to hand Mijalkov the house arrest measure in the Target-Fortress case. According to lawyer Petar Vasilev, who is part of the former secret police chief’s defence team, taking the new developments into consideration, there is no reason why Mijalkov wouldn’t be allowed to be released on bail, in addition to the offered guarantees.
