Dimitrov: Will EU get Benefits or Problems from Integration of Western Balkans

Deputy PM for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov discussed in an interview with Serbian TV station N1 the process of integration of North Macedonia in the EU and what has been achieved so far. “Our main obstacle was the name dispute with Greece, and now that we’ve resolved that we started preparing for membership talks, but unfortunately, another neighbour of our, Bulgaria, created a new obstacle on our way towards EU integration. We also need to bear in mind that the region is not the centre of the universe and Europe has other, internal problems, problems with decision-making and functioning. Having this in mind, the legitimate question that maybe we should ask ourselves is whether the EU membership of the so-called six states, will bring some value and solutions or more problems. Our citizens are disappointed with the EU, which is evident through the decline of their support for European integration,” Dimitrov said.
