Mickoski: I Still Receive Life Threats After Assassination Attempt Over Me

Leader of VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski said in an interview for Serbian web portal “Prva.rs” that he is still receiving threats for his life after the start of the protests against the French proposal for lifting of the Bulgarian veto for accession of North Macedonia in the EU. “The threats against me and my family started four years agon, as soon as I took over the leadership of the greatest political party in our country, and very quickly became the politician with the highest political rating. Two days ago, during the protests, there was an attempt over my life, but fortunately unsuccessful. After that, there are still threats against me and my family, and the state still fails to provide me with security. However, I shall not back down. I am ready to end my life for this country, so are those that want to kill me ready to pull the trigger. With the protocols contained in that proposal, if our country accepts them, then we will accept that before 1945 there were no Macedonian people nor Macedonian language, which is a filthy lie that Bulgaria is insisting upon. What worries us is that at the moment in the government there are politicians, with ratings far worse than mine or that of VMRO-DPMNE, who are ready to accept these theses, only to remain in power. This is why we support and participate in the protests against the French proposal, because as a party, and as people, we cannot accept something that isn’t true, and we cannot have our right of self-determination compromised by another country, which by the way is a full-fledged EU and NATO member,” Mickoski said in the interview. SDSM reacted to the interview, accusing Mickoski of destructive behaviour, claiming that he and his allies from Alliance for Albanians attempt to radicalise the atmosphere during the protests and provoke incidents. From the Interior Ministry they also accused Mickoski of spreading fake news, stating that the person who pointed a gun at the protesting crowd was immediately arrested and that his motif was not the assassination of the opposition leader.
