A Macedonian delegation headed by PM Zoran Zaev started on Tuesday an official visit to the Czech Republic. In Prague, Zaev was welcomed by his Czech Counterpart Adrej Babis, with whom he held a bilateral meeting, followed by a joint press conference of the two PMs. “We are encouraged by the constant pledges of our friends within the EU for maintenance of the matter of the Union’s enlargement, and we hope that this pressure of their will soon produce very good results. The bilateral relations between North Macedonia and the Czech Republic are quite good, with official Prague being one of the greatest supporters of our integration in NATO and EU. It was the Czech Republic, along with Italy, Austria, Poland and several other EU members that addressed a letter to the European Commission, insisting on sooner reforms of the enlargement methodology so that North Macedonian starts the membership talks as soon as possible,” Zaev said. The Czech PM Babis said that his country shall insist on resolution of the enlargement issue with a positive outcome for Macedonia at the EU summit in March 2020. Later on Tuesday, PM Zaev met in Prague the President of the Czech Senate Jaroslav Kubera. Zaev thanked Kubera for the ratification of the NATO Protocol for Accession of Macedonia by the Czech Senate, and praised its good cooperation with the Macedonian Parliament, while Kubera expressed hope that Macedonia will become part of NATO as soon as possible.
