State Officials’ Reactions to NATO Flag Ceremony for Macedonia

The officials of the Macedonian government did not travel to Brussels due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, and followed the ceremony of hoisting of the Macedonian flag in front of NATO’s headquarters in Brussels via a video-link in Skopje. “Today we are realizing the greatest achievement since the country’s independence. As of today, North Macedonia’s flag flies in the family circle of NATO allies. The journey was long but today’s reward is deserved. Be proud, my fellow citizens. At present we are fighting another battle, the battle with the coronavirus. But let’s take this moment to rejoice this historic day, the day when our flag flies alongside the other flags of our allies in NATO, the most powerful military-security alliance in the history of mankind,” said Caretaker PM Oliver Spasovski. Deputy PM and Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska said that Macedonia is now part of one big family of over one billion people which guarantees the state’s safety and security. “This historic achievement is a result of tough decisions and long years of dedication and reforms, which would have been impossible without the unprecedented support of the citizens of our country. Thank you to all who supported North Macedonia during this process and did not let us lose faith in the outcome,” says Sekerinska.
