Geer: Judicial Council Developments in Summer and Changes Serious Concern

The developments in relation to the Judicial Council in the summer and the manner in which the Criminal Code changes were adopted are a serious concern for Brussels, the Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador David Geer, assessed on Thursday.

According to him, though progress was registered regarding the rule of law, in certain areas, the situation has to improve. Geer’s message is that the judicial reforms, according to EU standards, should continue without delay, while political parties and the business sector should stop interfering in the work of judges and prosecutors.

Asked when the preliminary results of the EU’s peer review mission over the Judicial Council could be expected, the EU Delegation Head didn’t give a specific answer. However, he added that the recommendations would be of key importance.
