US Assistant Secretary O’Brien in Interview with 360 Degrees Show

In an interview with the 360 Stepeni (360 Degrees) show, James O’Brien, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs says regarding North Macedonia’s EU path and constitutional changes: “The only way forward is to resolve this issue. There’s an offer on the table. You should take it. If you don’t take it, you’re turning your back on history, frankly.”

According to him, though that way may feel satisfying, it is a way to cost the economy. “It will cause more people to want to leave the country and will generally turn this country backward. And what I’ve loved about this country since I first came here almost 30 years ago is how everyone is looking forward and anxious to be part of this larger enterprise called the EU and I just encourage every political leader to take up that opportunity,” O’Brien notes in the interview.

As he adds, though someone may say they can come up with a better offer, but unless they say exactly what it is and why other people would accept, “they’re just trying to fool you and I’d hope the voters are smarter than that”. He nonetheless says voters can choose what they want.
